Green Impact and the Library – how you can help

    The Green Impact Scheme

Green Impact is an environmental accreditation scheme empowering staff and students to take an active role in reducing their environmental impact. This is done through the creation of teams of ‘champions’ within each area of the University.

Did you know all the NTU libraries are taking part in this scheme as well as your own student union?

Having achieved the bronze award last year the 3 libraries are aiming for the silver  award by March 2013, which we believe will be a fantastic achievement that will show how green we are. For this award we have to meet a more specific criteria relating to energy; waste and recycling; travel; biodiversity and community; embedding and communication; and procurement.

In the meantime there are a few things that you can do to help us achieve the award:

Please use the recycling bins provided in the library for paper/card, plastic/cans.

    ·  Think about the tree’s and try  not to print out hand-outs etc. if possible, and print  double sided if practical.

    · If you need to scribble a quick note down, why not use some scrap paper which we may be able to supply from the library, please ask?

    · Report leaking taps and water coolers to library staff, a dripping tap can waste up to 5,000 litres of water a year.

    • Each team workbook will be audited by NTU students trained in environmental auditing.

NTU as a whole has made a long term pledge to cut its carbon footprint by 48% before 2020. In the shorter term however each area of NTU is working to cut their electricity use by 10% by the end of June 2013.

Many thanks for your help and if you have any questions relating to green issues in the library then please feel free to contact us by emailing:
